The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, both carrying 1-2 records despite soaring preseason hopes, collided Sunday in a marquee AFC battle at Arrowhead Stadium. For teams still eyeing the playoffs, the matchup carried weight as an early gauge of their staying power amid mounting challenges. Baltimore arrived hobbled by defensive injuries, of which Kansas City hoped to take advantage.

The Ravens opened sharply, marching for a touchdown on Lamar Jackson’s 11-yard pass to Justice Hill and seizing a 7-0 edge. Kansas City countered steadily, converting its first four possessions into points: Harrison Butker’s two field goals bookended touchdown throws from Patrick Mahomes to JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquise Brown, vaulting the Chiefs to a 20-7 lead late in the half. Tyler Loop’s 43-yard field goal pulled Baltimore within 20-10 at the break.

Momentum tilted further after halftime as the Chiefs capped a swift 65-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown reception by Tyquan Thornton, pushing the margin to 27-10. Derrick Henry churned forward to spark Baltimore’s reply, though a sack limited them to another Loop field goal. Butker answered with a 31-yard field goal of his own, swelling Kansas City’s cushion to 30-13.

Jackson’s day darkened midway through the third quarter when a right hamstring strain sidelined him, thrusting backup Cooper Rush into the fray. The Chiefs pounced early in the fourth, Mahomes firing his fourth touchdown pass—to Brown again—for a commanding 37-13 lead. Justice Hill provided a late Ravens spark with a 71-yard touchdown run, but Kansas City closed out the 37-20 victory, their seventh triumph in eight meetings against Baltimore.

Mahomes shined today, with 270 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, and a passer rating of 124.8. By contrast, Jackson had 147 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 turnovers with 1 interception before exiting in the third quarter.

Slipping to 1-3, the Ravens face the Houston Texans next Sunday, grappling with Jackson’s status in doubt alongside defensive absences and a demanding road ahead. The Chiefs, now 2-2 and surging, host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night.
