DALLAS — A gunman opened fire on a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, shortly before 7 AM CDT on Wednesday. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports that two detainees died from their injuries, while a third suffered critical wounds. DHS says the shooter “fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, as well as at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot.” Dallas Police Department officials confirmed the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the attack. No law enforcement officers sustained injuries in the incident. Federal investigators later identified the victims as ICE detainees and released an image of unspent ammunition, including one casing marked with the words “ANTI-ICE.”

Joe Rothrock, special agent in charge of the Dallas FBI Field Office, addressed reporters and described the probe as active. He noted that initial findings indicate the gunfire represented targeted violence directed at ICE operations. Rothrock also referenced a prior event in the region, saying, “It is unfortunately just the most recent example we have seen of targeted violence to include here in North Texas. Back on July 4, we saw a coordinated attack carried out against an immigration detention center in Alvarado, Texas.”

Republican leaders quickly condemned the episode amid concerns over escalating threats to immigration enforcement personnel. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated, “While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them.” Vice President JD Vance echoed those sentiments, declaring, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.” Texas Senator Ted Cruz urged restraint in public discourse, adding, “This needs to stop. This has very real consequences […] your political opponents are not Nazis. We need to learn to work together without demonizing each other, without attacking each other.”

The FBI encourages the public to share any relevant details by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI. Investigators continue to examine evidence and motives behind the assault.
